The Pause for Purpose Award honors a female business owner or entrepreneur who embodies the spirit of Pause—a woman who intentionally creates space to reflect, learn, and grow, both personally and professionally. She knows that slowing down doesn’t mean stepping back—it means building the strength to leap forward. To help propel her journey, the recipient will also receive a $1,000 grant designed to spark new growth or opportunity within her business.
The Pause for Purpose Award was created by The Pause Community founders, Alida Lee and Catherine Honeycutt—two hardworking moms and business owners who understand firsthand the challenges of balancing entrepreneurship, family, and self-care.
Much like motherhood, running a business can often feel like a thankless job. The late nights, tough decisions, and invisible labor behind every success story deserve to be recognized. Alida and Catherine are on a mission to celebrate the women whose hard work fuels their thriving business

Award purpose
The Pause for Purpose Award celebrates North Carolina women who understand that progress begins with intentional reflection. It honors those who lead with empathy, collaboration, and courage—women who make time to care for themselves, their businesses, and their communities.
The award aims to recognize not just achievement, but the HEARTwork behind it—the moments of stillness, resilience, and vision that fuel true growth.
Award criteria
Nominees must meet the following criteria:
- Female business owner or entrepreneur based in BBB's 48-county service area.
- Actively involved in business operations for at least one year
- Demonstrates leadership qualities that empower others.
- Embodies collaboration, integrity, and a growth mindset.
- Positively impacts her community or industry.
Nominees will be evaluated on how they embody the following four pillars of The Power of Pause.
