Using social media to talk about social responsibility

Social media is a powerful tool to talk about your business’s commitment to social responsibility. Studies show that consumers, employees, job seekers, and partners all value businesses that do good, and social media gives you the ability to communicate your efforts with them. Additionally, social responsibility is contagious. If other organizations in your network see you posting about doing good, it might inspire them to go out and do the same.

While social media can be powerful, it can also be daunting to use. Here are some easy tips to help you communicate with your network about social responsibility:

  • Share your plan for social responsibility- Maybe you haven’t started your environmental or volunteer projects just yet. Sharing your future plans for social responsibility with an infographic or video is a great way to start the conversation and get your followers excited about what’s to come.
  • Ask your followers for ideas- Everyone has different ideas of what a socially responsible business looks like and how to do good in the community. Asking your followers for ideas is a smart way to generate engagement and learn what people in your network value.
  • Post photos and videos of your organizations doing good- Perhaps the easiest way to communicate about social responsibility is to post content showing your company doing good. Volunteer projects, local cleanups, food drives, etc. all make great content for social media. Seeing your employees out doing good in the community might inspire your followers to commit to social responsibility as well.
  • Tag your partners and use hashtags- Tagging social and environmental organizations that you’ve partnered with opens the door for them to share your social responsibility posts. Additionally, using hashtags that relate to your causes can help you connect with other organizations and individuals with similar interests.
