Five easy ways to make your business more socially responsible
Commiting to social responsibility may seem like a daunting task, but it might be easier than you think. Even the smallest efforts count, and getting started already puts you on the pathway toward doing good. Here are five quick tips to get your business's social responsibility efforts started:
- Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle- Ahhh the good ol’ RRR. Simple things like offering a recycle bin in the office break room is a small thing you can do to reduce the amount of trash your employees make and give our landfills a break.
- Offer Remote Work- Even if you give your employees one day of remote work a month think about all of the car emissions you are taking off of the street. Small changes make a big difference.
- Volunteer- If your office takes one work day out of the year to volunteer you can make a big difference for people that need it the most. Looking for volunteer opportunities? Check out BBB Catalyst partner Activate Good for ideas and ways to get involved.
- Make Energy Efficient Upgrades- Not only can it help with carbon offsets but it can lower electricity bills as well. Use energy-efficient appliances; move to LED lights; automate lights with sensors; use smart thermostats; take advantage of natural light; and supply staff with laptops instead of desktop computers.
- Purchase Carbon Offsets- Finally, for whatever portion of a company’s carbon footprint that can’t be reduced through changes, the purchase of offsets can move the needle to carbon neutrality. Check our BBB Catalyst Partner, Green Places, to learn more.
