BBB Mississippi: Application contents

BBB Mississippi awards scholarships to Mississippi high school students who have demonstrated character, leadership, and ethical values.  The scholarships are awarded for post-high school education at any Mississippi based accredited college/university beginning in the fall of 2026, including community colleges/technical colleges.  Rather than focusing on grades or extracurricular activities, the BBB scholarship is primarily based on an essay which must convey how the student has experienced and dealth with an ethical dilemma.  As the scholaship recipients pursue their careers, BBB Mississippi hopes to develop future business leaders who will promote ethics in the Mississippi marketplace.

Scholarship amount

In 2026, there will be a total of 3 scholarships, each in the amount of $2,000.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this award, the student must:

  • Be a high school senior
  • Be a Mississippi state resident
  • Have a 3.0 or show GPA improvement consistently over time
  • Plan to attend a Mississippi-based accredited Higher Education Institution (2 or 4 year)

Judging criteria

Entries will be reviewed by a panal of judges comprised of Mississippi business leaders and members of the academic community, and scored based on five elements:

  1.  Essay (40%)
  2.  Leadership (25%)
  3.  Community service (25%)
  4.  Academics (10%)
  5.  Letter of recommendation
