Why age-friendly?
In 2022, Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro, Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan and Direction Home Akron Canton joined forces to advance the County and City’s Age-Friendly initiative, a global effort to make communities more livable for people of all ages, especially older adults.
AARP estimates by 2040 one in every five people in the United States will be 65 or older. Both communities embraced being age-friendly as a means of ensuring the City and County are doing all they can to help this growing population of older adults thrive. The partnership with BBB is just one example of work ongoing in Akron and Summit County. To learn about Akron Summit Age-Friendly, visit https://co.summitoh.net/AgeFriendly.
This program provides BBB Accredited businesses and organizations with the opportunity to be recognized as an age-friendly business, affirming their organization met a set of criteria designed to provide quality and accessible services to older adults. Why is becoming an age-friendly business a benefit for both organizations and the community?
