About Our Internship Program

The Better Business Bureau® Foundation of Metro New York Charity Accountability Program is seeking Charity Analyst Interns for the Fall of 2021!

We are looking for motivated, analytical students with strong communication skills and an interest in gaining knowledge and experience in New York’s unique non-profit community.

Students should be able to participate online between 12 – 15 hours per week for a period of 12 weeks. We will gladly assist both you and your educational institution in completing requirements for approval of college/graduate school credit.

With guidance from BBB® Foundation staff, Charity Analyst Interns will assist with reports on New York area charities based on a review of their financial statements, tax filings, solicitations, governance and informational materials, communicate with local charities, and help update the charity database. Interns are invited to benefit from regular career information sessions with senior executives who are BBB board members.

Intern Program Elements:

  • Review financial, programmatic, fundraising and other materials from local charities in order to help evaluate compliance with the 20 BBB Standards for Charity Accountability
  • Communicate with New York charities to present questions, share recommendations, and help resolve problems
  • Help prepare charity reports with training and guidance from staff for public distribution
  • Help with special events, presentations, and group projects as possible
  • Assist with additional duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • Working towards or holding BA/BS degree, preferably with course work in public policy, nonprofit management, social policy, finance, accounting, or economics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as facility with numbers
  • Attention to detail while balancing multiple projects
  • An interest in learning about New York’s vibrant nonprofit community, as well as management and financial reporting issues

This is an unpaid online internship for Fall 2021. College credit is available. Prior interns have often reported in surveys that this intern experience helped them build valuable skills.
