YMCA raises funds through direct mail solicitations, personal visits, grant proposals, newspaper appeals, membership appeals and a telethon. Approximately 16% of donations are temporarily restricted with another 6% permanently restricted at the donor's request. Temporary funds are genereally restricted for a specific use and may be released when needed for that use. If permanently restricted, only the interest generated on the contribution may be used. The organization is tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. it is eligible to receive donations which are deductible as charitable donations for federal income tax purposes.
