BBB Warns of Scooter Scam

Toronto/Kitchener, ON – BBB is warning Canadians of a recent surge in complaint activity regarding a Hoverboard manufacturer. 

Firefly Scooter, whose offices are reportedly at 2787 Keele St, Vaughan, ON, offers its products at fireflyscooter.com and through advertisements on Kijiji. 

Since early June 2016, BBB has received at least 13 complaints and over 300 inquiries about this company. Complainants allege that scooters are paid for but not received. Those who received product are reporting the item is defective. Customers have attempted to contact the company via email, phone, webchat, and Facebook without success. In addition, it appears that any negative posts made online are being removed by the company. Currently, the company’s website is still accepting orders however, their phone number (416-509-4552) is out of service.

BBB has issued Firefly Scooter an F rating due to unanswered and unresolved complaints.

BBB offers the following general advice when shopping online:

  • Research the company - Checkout the business at www.bbb.org and find out how long the company website has been operating at www.whois.com 
  • Use familiar websites - Utilize trusted websites rather than shopping with a search engine. If the site is well known, the risk is less!
  • Look for the secure lock - Ensure that all online shopping is carried out on secure sites.  Look for the tiny padlock icon, usually found in the top right corner of your browser's URL bar. You can also tell if the site is secure by looking for an "s" in the URL address. Secure sites begin with https://
