The Cost of Being Trendy

Amazing low prices AND trendy clothing – what’s the catch?
May 03, 2017

Have you been scrolling through Facebook or Instagram and spotted an adorable outfit at an incredibly low price? Be careful if you are considering purchasing that great buy offered on social media.  There are many “too good to be true” sounding offers on social media and often time they are. Looking closer at BBB Business Profiles on businesses such as RoseGal and Dress Lily show complaints about non-fulfilled orders, extensive delays, and poorly made merchandise.

After a consumer makes a purchase, they are often left in the dark, wondering when their order will ship or if it will ship at all. When consumers reach out to contact the business, there is simply no response at all and the money is gone. Further research shows many online comments and reviews being posted that express the same concerns.  So before you hit  “like” visit BBB to check out the trustworthiness of the business.

BBB Serving Central Indiana offers the following tips to consider before shopping around:

  • Look at the URL of the website. Ensure the site is secure by looking for “https” instead of “http.”
  • Check for the company’s contact page. It should provide the business address, email, and phone number.
  • Use a payment method that comes with protection such as a major credit card. Debit cards, wire transfers, and cash transactions are risky as they don’t offer protection should the order be lost or never sent.
  • Understand the business’s return policy. Find out if there is a return policy in place. Do you receive your money back or store credit? How many days from the initial purchase do you have to return the items? Most retailers will have this listed on their website.
