Our home was finished in 2018, 5 yrs. Schenck builders built a beautiful custom home we love however they didn't add several things we thought were standard. Such as gutters or shower enclosures. They hadn't been discussed prior to the build. The upstairs bathroom definitely needed a glass wall & door. When we mentioned this we were told it was not in the budget but they'd get us a quote that came back high. We did a glass shower enclosure a couple years later for almost half the quote. We had an oversized septic put in due to size of the home per the engineer, but only one 40 gal water heater. I mentioned at the time that my smaller home of 2,600 sq ft had TWO 40 gal water heaters & were there 12 yrs with no problems. But now in just 5 yrs our water heater has gone out & needs replacing! We are buying an 80 gal with an 11 year warranty. I was told at the time 40 gal was sufficient & what was suggested by the engineer & not able put in a larger tank at our expense. We also need the roof repaired from a large water leak we found last year. After having an estimate for repair,  we were told some tiles were placed wrong & need to be replaced & weaved together. If leaks were due to storm damage I'd understand, but leakage due to contractor error should be fixed. I read the warranty wrong & thought the roof had a 10 yr warranty but Yvette says the roof is only 1 yr. I find it interesting that if I buy something myself I can get an 11 yr warranty but under the builder only 1-2 yrs. Its also just annoying that I still stare at a hole in my ceiling where the builders made a wrong hole that never got patched, or cabinets that never closed properly from moving in. They didn't come back to fix stuff within 1 yr, tho I spoke with Yvette by phone at least twice during the 1st year mentioning issues at around 1 mo & 6 mo. She always said wait till the end of the warranty yr to address all as they only come out once & what if we found other issues? So we waited. During our build, paperwork stated we were to fax or email about any changes, however I prefer personal & would call. Yvette would always respond & address what was needed. I assumed after the build I could do the same. Now she says I should have emailed. I wish I had, instead I tried to call. Voice-mail was always full & phone not answered. It's my fault, I did not follow proper procedure but I still felt enstranged as soon as the build was finished. Would definitely use someone else for another build.
