In May 2021 we signed a contract with Aubrey **** of Elara Signature Homes to build us a home. We put down our initial deposit. We then later met with Jose ***** and the contract was for Elara to carry the construction loan. The process began. After a deposit of $41K, we were informed in Jul 2021 we would have to secure our own construction loan. We did so in Sept, however the actual build did not begin until Jan 2022. The build was scheduled 8-10 months from date of contract, however our 'build' took 18 months and was not 'completed' until Nov 2022, we were able to move in in Dec 2022. The delayed process was NOT due to supply shortage. There was severe lack of communication (ordered wrong size front door which resulted in us not getting the door we requested), mismanagement of funds (omitting items for funding from the contract that are clearly include on the blue prints)( sub-contractors placing a lien of our home since they were not paid), short cuts taken (no flashing put around chimney and other required areas), and poor quality craftsmanship (brick work in front of home very poorly done). Since completion of the build we had to have the water heater remounted and properly vented, we require a new roof (3 independent roofing companies came to the same conclusion). The delays resulted in excessive interest rates, and fees to extend construction loan. We have since file suit against this company for breach of contract among other things and have received a default judgement against them. There is at least one other family in our neighborhood who has had similar issues with Elara. I STRONGLY urge anyone considering a home build with this company to contact another home builder.
