Formed in 1992, the Better Business Bureau of Hawaii Foundation was created to educate the public on consumer issues, to promote ethical business practices, and to assist in the resolution of marketplace disputes.
While the Foundation was established to educate all members of the public, it's primary focus is on informing members of the military and seniors on consumer issues. In 2015, the Foundation reached over 12,000 throughout Hawaii with education resources regarding ethical business practices, including presentations, trade show events and other outreach programs.
The Foundation annually runs the Secure Your ID Day, a public education and community service event aimed at preventing identity theft. In 2008, the event serviced over 5,900 people on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island, with over 152 tons of paper shredded and 40 tons of e-waste destroyed and recycled.
The Foundation also provides reviews on charities regarding ethical business practices to consumers through the BBB Wise Giving Alliance.
To donate or for further information on the Foundation, contact Lisa Nakao, Director of Operations.
