We are offering four (4) awards to graduating seniors from designated NC counties who will enroll at any accredited two or four year colleges, technical colleges, or universities in the fall of 2017.

These awards can be used for room, board, books and fees only. These awards cannot be used for tuition. In addition, these awards are not renewable.

 

 

Total Awards will be $17,500

  • 1 for $7,500 (sponsored by Market America - Shop.com)
  • 1 for $5,000
  • 2 for $2,500 each

Award recipients will be announced in April 2017.

Eligibility
To be considered, you must:

  • Be graduating from a high school in any of the areas:
    • Alamance County
    • Guilford County
    • Randolph County
    • Rockingham County
    • Caswell County
    • City of Thomasville
  • Be attending any two or four-year college, technical college or university beginning in the fall of 2017
  • Be in good academic standing and show proof of community service and leadership while in high school
  • Submit a 500 word essay describing how you handled an ethical dilemma you faced

 

Applications Due Friday, March 31 - 5 pm
No exceptions will be made for incomplete submissions or submissions received after the deadline.

Be prepared to also submit with your application - your:

  • 500-word essay describing how you handled an ethical dilemma you faced
  • Resume demonstrating: 
    • Leadership: Describe any extracurricular work or school related activities, including awards/honors or offices you have held
    • Community Service: Describe activities outside of school and within your community, such as church or special community activities. Include your awards/honors or offices you have held
    • Academic achievements: Describe awards received relating to academic achievement and describe post-secondary education plans.
  • Transcript

 
If you don't submit online: PRINT the application, pick it up in your school’s counselor’s office, or you can call us at 336-852-4240. Then, compile your submission in a 3 ring binder using tabs for each category. Your signed entry form should be placed first. Then put your essay, your resume, and lastly a copy of your transcripts. If you don't submit all the required information, BBB will not accept your application. Please mail your submission to:

Fine Print

  • Submissions will not be returned.
  • All entries become the property of Better Business Bureau Serving Central NC. 
  • BBB retains the right to make program rule changes at any time.
  • Judging will be conducted by an independent panel of judges.
  • All judging decisions are final.
  • Recipients’ name and essay quotes may be released to the public and news media for promotional purposes, however BBB will be considerate of sensitive material.
  • Immediate family members of a BBB board member and BBB employees are not eligible for the scholarship award.
  • Family members of BBB Accredited Business owners are eligible.
  • Funds will be distributed directly to the school upon verification of the student's enrollment.
