Central Carolina Air Conditioning installed its first air conditioning system in April 1967. When Mr. Lacy started the company as Lacy Air Conditioning and the first office was in a 2,000 sq. ft. military building over in the O.R.D. section of Greensboro. The building was full of holes and impossible to heat or cool to any comfort level. It grew from one employee (Mr. Lacy) to six employees and back to three employees during the first year.

That first full year of business produced a whopping $27,000 in total sales revenue. In 1972, the name changed to Central Trane Air Conditioning Company, Inc. to take advantage of an opportunity to use the Trane company name. Many current employees joined the company within the next ten years.

1967 Central Carolina Air Conditioning founded by Richard Lacy.
1972 The name changed to Central Trane Air Conditioning Company, Inc. to take advantage of an opportunity to use the Trane company name.
1984 The name changed to Central Carolina Air Conditioning Company, Inc., partially because of major changes within the Trane Company, but more importantly, to allow us the freedom to expand and grow.
1997 Richard Lacy, founder and owner of Central Carolina Air sold the company to a major consolidator, Group Maintenance America. In 1999, Group Maintenance America merged with Building One Resources and created Encompass.   Central Carolina Air Conditioning Company operated until late 2002 as a business unit within Encompass.
2002 Richard Lacy, founder, Robert J. Allison, our current president and the current senior managers Barbara Dixon, Pat Priddy and Bill Corriher purchased the company back from Encompass. In May 2005 Mike Quinn a well respected PE, joined the company as a senior manager and principle. Central Carolina Air Conditioning’s legal structure today is a six member LLC.

Through all these changes Central Carolina Air Conditioning has upheld the highest standards of ethics and quality. Richard Lacy stated, "We had come a long way from those early years because we are a company of good people, selling and installing good products, and always having a plan for the future."
