Tax Scam Calls Increase

May 06, 2016

Tax season may be over, but the IRS scam calls haven't stopped.  In fact, your Better Business Bureau serving Evansville and the Tri-State as well as other BBBs throughout the US have received an increase in calls from consumers this week about the tax scam.

These scammers are still threatening legal action or jail time if you refuse to send them money, usually via pre-paid card immediately. As a reminder, the IRS will not call you and demand immediate payment over the phone, nor will they call you about taxes owed without having sent you a bill first.

You can report these calls to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) via their website, and you can report them to BBB ScamTracker as well.
