Better Business Bureau serving Pacific Southwest (BBB) awards Prescott High School’s Makenna Jex BBB Ethical Athlete Scholarship, powered by Isagenix. In its third year, the BBB Ethical Athlete Scholarship recognizes deserving student athletes across the state for doing the right thing on and off the playing field. Nominated by coaches, teachers, teammates, and fans, two student athletes (a male and a female) are selected each month to receive a $1,000 scholarship. At the end of the school year, BBB selects two Ethical Champions who receive an additional $2,500 scholarship.Makenna Jex, a senior volleyball and soccer player at Prescott High School, was recognized as one of April’s BBB Ethical Athlete winners May 17 at her school’s senior scholarship awards night. “Makenna has demonstrated moral character over and over, but specifically, while serving as a line judge during a close match,” said her nominator. “During the game, the opposing team served the ball in but the home team thought is was out of bounds. Even though her own school and team thought the ball was out, Makenna called the ball in play. She knew the call had to be made correctly even though it could cost the home team a point, and potentially, the game.”BBB has recognized the following students as BBB Ethical Athletes so far this school 2017-2018 year:Ramces Urias - Senior baseball player at Gila Ridge High SchoolAndrew Hernandez - Senior wrestler at Paradise Valley High SchoolMallytza Ibarra - Senior swimmer at Gila Ridge High SchoolEthan Upayokin - Senior golfer at Gila Ridge High SchoolBailey Kaufmann - Senior swimmer at Paradise Valley High SchoolAnthonie Cooper - Senior football player at Millennium High SchoolElizabeth Westervelt - Senior basketball player at Sedona Red Rock High SchoolJosiah Jacobs - Junior football player at Saguaro High SchoolHannah DeVore - Senior track and field athlete at Mingus Union High SchoolAlexa Spartz - Senior volleyball player at Sandra Day O’Connor High SchoolJulian Johnson - Senior basketball player at Cactus Shadow High SchoolJoseph Heath - Senior basketball player at Mohave High SchoolLauryn Johnson - Senior volleyball player at Paradise Honors High SchoolKaylee Byerly - Senior volleyball player at Sandra Day O’Connor High SchoolHunter Weber - Senior football player at Horizon High SchoolMallytza Ibarra - Senior swimmer at Gila Ridge High SchoolRick Perez - Senior football and track athlete at Rio Rico High School BBB Serving the Pacific Southwest reviews public nominations every month and selects ethical athletes to be honored throughout the year.
