The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently announced a refund claim process for consumers who bought the NutriMost Ultimate Fat Loss System in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area between October 1, 2012 and August 9, 2016. Specifically, consumers who purchased the system at the Pittsburgh area locations of Churchill/Penn Hills, Greensburg, Greentree/Crafton, Irwin, Murrysville/Delmont, North Versailles, Ross Park Mall and Upper St. Clair are eligible to apply for a refund.Leading up to 2017 action taken against NutriMost Wellness & Weightloss LLC by the FTC, in which your Better Business Bureau assisted with the investigation, BBB attempted to work with NutriMost through self-regulation regarding concerns with the company’s advertising and marketing of its weight-loss program. Though it is not uncommon for chiropractors to provide weight management services as part of their practice, BBB and the FTC recognized the NutriMost program’s inability to substantiate such marketing claims as, “users being able to safely lose substantial amounts of weight – typically 20 to 40 pounds or more in 40 days – without following a restrictive diet.”“BBB advises consumers who are evaluating weight-loss programs to do their homework by carefully weighing the potential risks and benefits of participating and recognizing false or misleading advertising claims,” says Warren King, president of the Better Business Bureau of Western PA. “It’s important for people to maintain realistic expectations regarding weight loss and remember that no program or product should make universal promises of success or claim specific results for all users.”According to the FTC, consumers have until July 16, 2018 to file a claim. To apply for a refund, consumers can visit ftc.gov/Nutrimost, click on “Apply for a Refund” and complete and submit the form. Consumers who would like a paper form mailed to them can call 1-877-884-6069 to request one.Visit your BBB’s Weight Loss Resource Center at bbb.org for more helpful information and information.
