Better Business Bureau Serving Acadiana and the FTC warns consumers on a get-rich scheme. The promoters pitched “Get started selling on Amazon and make $5,000 - $10,000 in the next 30 days… even if you’ve never sold anything online before.” to lure unsuspecting people into a bogus business opportunity. How the scheme works: Amazing Wealth Systems in ads and live seminars claim that people who used the company's "system" would generate thousands of dollars in sales on Amazon.com. According to the FTC it was really Amazing Wealth Systems that made the money by enrolling people. The business charged from $995 to more than $35,000 for a purported exclusive “plug-and-play system” that allows consumers to create a profitable online business selling products on Amazon.com. Unfortunately, those who followed the system did not make anywhere close to the advertised income, or any income at all. Many of the sellers got their accounts suspended due to the "systems" instructions were against Amazon's policies. The FTC has filed a lawsuit against this company and a temporary restraining order was entered against Amazing Wealth Systems. However, there are still unscrupulous people that may try to lure others with this method of deception. BBB and FTC offer these tips to protect yourself against these types of schemes.· Do your research. Go to www.bbb.org to view a company’s BBB Business Profile, which provides a variety of information to help consumers make better informed decisions. · Check out the FTC's Business Opportunity Rule which include these requirements: A company that promotes a business opportunity making specific earning claims like …Make $5,000 - $10,000 in the next 30 days…, must have proof that people can actually make that kind of money. The company has to give prospective buyers a disclosure document that includes certain information about the business. If a business opportunity is promoted in Spanish, the disclosure document has to be in Spanish, too.· Review all marketing material and sales plans.· Verify earnings of other independent distributors that have worked for or currently employed by the company.· Clarify contract cancellations and product buy-back polices.
