Better Business Bureau of Acadiana, a standards-based organization, has revoked the accreditation of one Acadiana company, John Wayne Roofing of Lafayette, LA. The company was revoked for violations of their BBB Accreditation Agreement. Accredited Businesses must maintain high standards for fair and honest business practices and accreditation may be revoked if they fail to comply. BBB Standards for Trust are a comprehensive set of best practices for how businesses should treat the public in a fair and honest manner. BBB’s Board of Directors revoked the BBB Accreditation of John Wayne Roofing March 2, after the business failed to respond to a complaint. To be accredited by BBB a business or organization affirms that it will meet and abide by BBB standards, including “Be Responsive. Address marketplace disputes quickly, professionally, and in good faith.” The business had 30 days to appeal the decision but elected not to do so. BBB Accredited Businesses agree to promptly respond to all complaints forwarded by BBB by resolving the complaint directly with the complainant and notifying BBB or providing BBB with a response that BBB determines addresses all of the issues raised by the complainant. BBB businesses also agree to Embody Integrity and approach all business dealings, marketplace transactions and commitments with integrity. BBB encourages all businesses to be transparent. Openly identify the nature, location, and ownership of the business, and clearly disclose all policies, guarantees and procedures that bear on a customer’s decision to buy. Consumers reported to BBB John Wayne Roofing that the company did repairs to the home but the homeowners were still having leaks and full payment was rendered. The consumers all report that attempts to contact business were unanswered. BBB opened an investigation on John Wayne Roofing after the BBB was notified by a reliable source the business owners left town. The BBB found that the business' phone number is still active however, the voicemail is full. The business' email is still active and there have been no returned regular mailings. BBB did visit the location of the business and found that the business' location appears to be vacant with a FOR RENT sign in the yard. After further investigation the owners have allegedly moved to another state. BBB offers the following tips to hire a handyman: · Start With Trust® Check out handymen at bbb.org. · Make a list of exactly what projects you would like the handyman to complete. When selecting a candidate, be sure to ask them about their range of skills and if they specialize in a particular project. · Interview at least three handymen. Request an estimate from each handyman. Ask all the handymen how many years of experience they have. Ask them to provide a list of references you may contact. · Be sure the handyman is licensed as is necessary. Find out the type of insurance the handyman carries to be sure you will be covered in case there is an accident on your property. Find out if the job you need completed requires a permit and if the handyman will be able to obtain the permit for you. · Discuss payment. Set up a payment schedule before they start working on your house. Get Everything in Writing. Require that the handyman provides a contract that includes the start and completion date, details of each job, and the payment schedule.
