DENVER, COLORADO–This March, BBB serving Denver/Boulder is excited to name Community Shares of Colorado as BBB Charity of the Month. To view our video, click here. Since 1986, Community Shares of Colorado has been a leader in community-based philanthropy and promotes a mission of connecting Coloradans to charities and causes they care about most. They were founded on four guiding principles: choice in giving, local significance, membership diversity, and financial clarity. At its’ inception, Community Shares of Colorado, originally called The Alternative Fund, gave a home to nonprofit organizations that did not fit the mold of existing workplace giving federations. Their members included grassroots nonprofits and new issue areas such as social justice, respect for all individuals, environmental conservation, and community-owned arts.Today, their members represent a wide variety of interests and causes, with all sharing a commitment to inclusiveness and equity as qualifications for nonprofit membership in the community giving fund. Some of these member agencies’ missions include promoting animal welfare, improving health options, working for a just society, accessing education opportunities, and more. Community Shares of Colorado offers the Community Giving Program as an opportunity for employees and company leadership to work together on an annual drive to inspire charitable investments. They believe that inviting employees to give through paycheck contributions is a benefit that increases a company’s positive impact on the community, while respecting individual employees’ desires to express themselves by choosing their favorite charitable recipients. In their 2017-2018 campaign year, they raised more than $5 million for their member nonprofits, partner federations, and write-in charities through organizations involved in the Community Giving Program. BBB joined Community Shares of Colorado on March 23rd at The GrowHaus for their Spring Home Brew fundraiser. Our volunteers assisted by managing the games offered throughout the night and networked with local community members who came out to sample tasty brews for a good cause. People can get involved by either giving through their Community Shares workplace giving campaign, or by helping their business get a workplace giving campaign started.
