Since 1978, Seniors’ Resource Center has been a community partner dedicated to enhancing the independence, dignity, and quality of life of seniors in the Denver area and surrounding communities. The organization originally began as a department under Jefferson County’s Department of Social Services before expanding in scope. Today, the Seniors’ Resource Center serves nearly 25,000 people each year, with locations in Denver, Evergreen, Wheat Ridge, Littleton, and Englewood. The organization’s headquarters are located in Wheat Ridge, which has the highest percentage of seniors in Jefferson County (and Jefferson county has the highest senior population in Colorado). At the core of Seniors’ Resource Center’s mission are services that allow seniors to thrive while living in their own homes such as in-home care, adult daytime programs, and transportation. This month, the center will coordinate for participants free tax-prep courses in multiple locations, and host courses on safe driving and safe use of prescription medication. Classes and events vary month to month, but include a range of resources for caregivers and seniors, and regular caregiver support groups. In February, the BBB Cares Committee organized drive through which employees donated gift cards to grocery stores and volunteered their time at the center. BBB Employees who volunteered met with staff and participants, performed landscaping work around the center’s grounds, and even briefly attended a dance that was being held that day. Seniors’ Resource Center offers a variety of options for those who want to get involved with their work serving the community. First, the center relies on a mix of dedicated staff and volunteers to serve as many people as possible. Volunteers help with tasks like providing transportation, performing minor home repairs and installing ramps, providing social support and companionship to participants, and many other rewarding tasks. Additionally, the organization is always open to donations and accepts them in a number of creative ways such as through Amazon Smile or through their “Partners in Care” program. Finally, Seniors’ resource center offers long-term sponsorship programs through which third party organizations can contribute to the center’s mission.BBB encourages consumers to visit give.org to find reputable charitable organizations such as Seniors’ Resource Center.
