Better Business Bureau of Southern Arizona got a chance to join Bill Buckmaster yesterday in sharing some exciting news. The Federal Trade Commission has worked diligently with many agencies, including the Attorney General's office for Arizona, to successfully achieve a $586 million settlement from Western Union for scam victims who sent a wire transfer via their money transfer system between January 1, 2004 and January 19, 2017. This is a huge WIN for consumers and we thank all of the agencies involved that made it possible. To submit your claim information, simply go to FTC.gov/WU. Of course, we must warn of scammers who will use this settlement in their favor. If you get a call, email, text saying that someone is willing to file on your behalf for a fee... DO NOT ENGAGE! Many scammers will take this opportunity to obtain your identifiable and financial information but the process is simple and you don't need an agent. The company handling the claims, Gilardi & Co. hired by the Department of Justice, will not be calling to ask for your bank account or credit card number. If you have any questions or concerns, call 1-877-382-4357. The key element here is that time is of the essence. All consumer claims must be submitted by February 12, 2018. So don't delay. Again, we are extremely grateful to all involved! If you want to hear the 1.15.18 radio interview from on the Buckmaster Show on this topic, listen in now at https://youtu.be/FtJqk7d-WS4. We thank Bill Buckmaster for being our conduit of education to our Southern Arizona community.
