DENVER, COLORADO—BBB serving Denver/Boulder is warning consumers to exercise caution when doing business with the online retailer Isla West (www.islawest.com). This warning follows a pattern of consumer complaints against the business alleging issues with its customer service, delivery, and refund/exchange policies. On its website, Isla West advertises beauty products such as waxing beans, magnetic eyelashes, and makeup. Consumers have submitted 19 complaints against Isla West in the last six months, none of which have received a response from the business. BBB gives the company an “F” rating. Complainants say that products purchased with three-five day shipping either take weeks to arrive or do not arrive at all, and allege that the business is slow to respond to customers (and becomes altogether unresponsive to customers demanding refunds). Some complainants also claim that the company’s products do not work as advertised. Isla West does not advertise a business address or a phone number online, and its website is registered in Panama. BBB did not receive a response to an email sent to the address listed on the site’s “contact us” page, requesting that the company clarify its business address. BBB also sent the Isla West an email letter in October notifying the business of its “F” rating. Despite BBB’s request that the business respond with a plan to address customers’ concerns, BBB received no response. In just the last month, BBB has received 86 consumer complaints against online retailers. That number is disproportionally high, totaling more than a third of the 239 complaints in that category received over the past year. This increase is most likely the result of a spike in online shopping following Cyber Monday and lasting throughout the holiday season. BBB offers consumers a number of tips for smart online shopping, and encourages consumers to visit Isla West’s BBB Business Profile to view or submit comments and reviews.
