DENVER, COLORADO—This December, BBB serving Denver/Boulder is proud to name Mile High United Way Charity of the Month. Please view our video here. Mile High United Way is a community organization that fights for education, health, and financial stability on behalf of everyone in the Metro Denver area. The organization acts as a catalyst for social change by working with hundreds of local nonprofits, government agencies, policy-makers, and businesses.Founded on October 16, 1887, Mile High United Way was the first United Way in the United States. Today, Mile High Unites Way works to advance inter-connected, multi-generational community goals that include expanding children’s access to preschool, improving literary education for young elementary schoolers, helping high schoolers develop to their full potential, and aiding struggling families with economic transition. As part of Better Business Bureau’s ongoing partnership with Mile High United Way, the BBB staff participated in a toy drive throughout December. Then, last week, members of the BBB Cares Committee delivered the toys to United Way’s Children’s Holiday Party and spent time volunteering at the party. There is no shortage of options for those who want to get involved in United Way’s mission. The organization is constantly searching for volunteers to participate in a number of service opportunities that range from a day of service to long-term partnerships with Denver Public School students. It also recruits advocates to participate in community engagement projects such as a lobbying “Day on the Hill,” meetings with elected representatives, and resident engagement projects. Mile High United Way also accepts donations in various forms including those made online, through a membership giving society, or as part of a workplace giving campaign.
