(GRAND RAPIDS) Better Business Bureau Serving Western Michigan’s 5th Annual Torch Awards for Ethics serve to highlight and pay tribute to local organizations that do things the right way and operate in an ethical and trustworthy manner. This year, the public nominated more than 250 local businesses and nonprofit organizations. Nominated organizations submitted a written application detailing how they promote trust and ethics, within their organization as well as externally for the benefit of the local community. Submitted applications were narrowed to a group of finalists which an independent panel of judges used to determine our six eventual winners. Based on the number of employees each organization has, there were four for-profit business categories and two non-profit categories, each with its own Torch Award winner:Vine Line Logistics, a third party produce logistics company. Businesses with 1-10 employees.CasterDepot, a local manufacturer of casters and wheels. Businesses with 11-50 employees. Ayers Basement Systems, which provides a range of home repair related services. Businesses with 51-175 employees.Huntington Bank, was recognized for their generosity and community engagement. Businesses with more than 175 employees.Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes awarded for their efforts to develop the next generation of young business professionals. Nonprofit organizations with 1-20 employees.West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology (WMCAT), their educational initiatives and community impact warranted receiving the award. Nonprofit organizations with 21 or more employees. In addition to highlighting the aforementioned organizations via the Torch Awards for Ethics, BBB Serving Western Michigan is also donating $1,000 to a local BBB Accredited nonprofit organization of the public’s choosing.
