BBB of Central New England and \nBBB's Consumer Education Foundation are pleased to announce that they \nare currently accepting applications for the Veterans and Service \nMembers Textbook Scholarship program for the Spring 2018 Semester. \n\n The scholarship program awards $500 to \nup to eight Veteran or Service Member students attending a university or\n college within BBB's service area of Central and Western MA and \nNortheast CT. Students may get financial aid but those funds \ndon't always cover textbooks, which can be expensive. This textbook \nscholarship helps cover those extra costs. Applications will be accepted up until the deadline of December 15, 2017. To be eligible for the textbook \nscholarship, students are asked to test their financial literacy with a \nsavvy consumer quiz and subscribe to our "Trusted Scout"\n Military Consumer Newsletter. "BBB's Military Line aims to educate \nmilitary personnel on financial literacy and predatory business \npractices," said Nancy B. Cahalen, President and CEO of the Better \nBusiness Bureau of Central New England. "By testing their financial \nliteracy with a short quiz, our veteran and service member applicants \nwill gain valuable insight into some of the helpful resources Military \nLine has to offer." Funded in part locally by BBB \nAccredited Businesses and in partnership with the U.S. Department of \nDefense Financial Readiness Campaign, BBB's Military Line works to \nincrease the level of financial literacy within military communities and\n reduce the number of military personnel that fall victim to predatory \npractices such as high interest auto loans, expensive insurance sales, \nrisky real estate deals and work from home scams. Specific programs \ninclude financial readiness training, fraud and scam alerts, company and\n charity reviews, and dispute resolution services.
