Are you looking for an opportunity to get involved in your community, to meet new people, help your neighbours and friends, and highlight great local businesses? Do you want to support companies that treat their customers well, businesses that just ‘do the right thing’?This may be the volunteer opportunity you’re looking for.BBB Serving the Atlantic Provinces (BBB) is a not-for-profit organization that exists to promote marketplace trust. We do this by delivering several important programs serving businesses and consumers alike. We operate from a single office in Halifax, and we need people to represent us in communities across Atlantic Canada. These roles are vitally important, as a team of effective BBB Ambassadors will help us make a greater impact in serving communities across Atlantic Canada. Comprehensive training will be provided by BBB’s CEO. You’ll be provided with all the training, information and materials you’ll need, and ongoing support for any questions or concerns that arise. Hours are entirely flexible; the commitment can be as little as a few minutes a day. Some of the ways you’ll get involved:Visiting BBB Accredited Businesses near you, to find out if there are things we can do to help support them, and making sure that they have seals, stickers, decals or magnets to identify themselves as Accredited Businesses.Identifying and letting us know about great businesses that should be BBB Accredited.Spreading the word about our awards program, the Torch Awards for Business Ethics.Finding opportunities to share information in your community about how to find trustworthy businesses, and how to avoid being a victim of scams or frauds.Giving presentations about BBB when there are opportunities to do so.Being alert on social media for opportunities to help people in your community make better purchase decisions, and pointing them towards the information BBB has to offer. Here's what we offer in return:The opportunity to make lots of new contacts – with local businesses, neighbours and new friends.A respected organization to add to your resume and LinkedIn profile, and a reference letter from the President & CEO.A shout-out in our Trusted Atlantic consumer guide the following year.Complimentary ticket to our Torch Awards event (if your location and time allow you to attend). The chance to learn a lot about customer service and good business practices, and scam prevention. The opportunity to earn BBB rewards, and even cash incentives.Knowing that you’re helping to make your community one where people trust the companies they do business with, and fewer people lose money to bad businesses and scams. For these volunteer roles, the most important qualification is a very high degree of integrity. BBB is the standard-bearer for ethical business practices, and therefore, everything we do must reflect those standards. Beyond that, we just need people who love to meet and talk to new people! We welcome interested volunteers who are young adults, parents with families, empty-nesters, senior citizens, and everything in between. You could be our next BBB Ambassador whether you’ve lived in your community all your life, or are new to Canada and looking for ways to get involved. We’re building a team of volunteers who want to support each other and have fun, while also doing very important work to help Atlantic Canadians. If you think that this role might be the volunteer opportunity you’re looking for, we’d love to hear from you. Start by filling out the brief application form here.
