BBB Paso del Norte invites El Paso and Juarez High Schools to participate in its first Student Video Contest

February 07, 2018

El Paso, TX  — Better Business Bureau (BBB) Paso del Norte, in partnership with GECU, will challenge El Paso County and Ciudad Juarez High School students to raise awareness and spark local and national dialogue on the importance of trust with its 2018 BBB Student Video Contest.

The goal of the competition is to encourage high school students to create videos that increase awareness regarding the importance of trust.  Students will create a 60 second video featuring the contest’s theme “Shop Smart. Look for the Seal”.

“BBB offers free information to consumers to help them to make smart and informed purchasing decisions, so they may find businesses they can trust.   With this contest, we hope to offer students an opportunity to express their creativity and develop their marketing skills, while raising awareness regarding the importance of being a smart, educated consumer”, said Marybeth Stevens, President and CEO of the BBB.

Judging will be based on the video production (with today’s smartphones and cameras, adequate technology is readily available), delivery of the theme, and successful promotion and marketing of the videos.

All videos will be submitted on the contest website Students will then use their social media skills to market their videos to get maximum online votes.   Finalists will have the opportunity to “pitch” their video to local marketing and PR leaders.

“This is a great opportunity for students and teachers to work together to create a video that will relate to trust and ethics in business, and at the same time will give them a real-life experience in communication, video production, and marketing.  It is also a great extracurricular activity to feature on their resumes and college applications”, said Stevens.

Along with the recognition and learning experience, students will have the opportunity to win monetary prizes (up to $1000) for the district department, program, or club that is working with the students, and the winning teams will receive (up to $150) gift cards per student. There will be three winners in El Paso and three in Ciudad Juárez.

"BBB promotes ethical business practices and good consumer purchasing habits in El Paso and Ciudad Juarez. We have designed the contest so that students on both sides of the border can participate.”

The contest officially starts on March 5, but schools’ registration is open until February 23 at

Winners will be recognized at the 2018 BBB Annual Meeting and Torch Awards luncheon on May 23. Detailed information is available at or you may contact the BBB directly at .
