Friday June 9, 2023 $600 approx. I brought my car in to have my exhaust reconnected after swapping out my turbo, due to the position of the turbo outlet changing significantly. I drew a diagram of what I wanted. When I got my car back, some of the exhaust components were in the wrong spot but I let it go and paid. The cost came in at almost $600, which was $300 above what it cost me last year to do the same work at the same shop. Once I got the car back, My wide-band O2 sensor was showing a consistent 18.3, which is full lean and well above the 14.7 it should show at idle. I attributed this to something in my O2 kit being defective, so I bought a new kit at a cost of $250. I swapped out all of the components and got the same reading. I spent three days diagnosing this problem, with many trips to the parts store to get the product exchanged & tested. On Tuesday evening I decided to bench-test all of the components. Every single component from both of my kits were found to be working perfectly. I decided to pull the V-bands off and have a look the connections, as it was the only possible explanation for the system not working. I found the female V-band off the back of the new turbo clamped to the re-used female V-band, and the two males butted up together at the down pipe, with both ends of the males filed down to fit inside the clamp. These are mated, precision parts that should never be modified to fit, much less forced together. The surfaces were no longer true from being ground down. The constantly lean AFR was caused by leaking exhaust at the V-bands. Not only was I over charged for this work, but I'm also out of pocket $250 for the new O2 sensor kit (AEM 30-4110), and some very poor welding & fabrication work. The whole assembly up to the flex pipe looks very "slapped together". I do not wish to go back to the shop that put this together, as I'm not prepared to have a verbal argument with them.
