New Year Resolutions for Your Business

January 08, 2018

Many hope for health and prosperity in the New Year and make resolutions to do the things that will help them achieve it, but what about your business? What resolutions have you made to maintain a healthy business? The New Year is the perfect opportunity to recommit to the elements that make your business successful.

“During the holiday season, we often think of new goals and resolutions we can set for the new year, but it’s easy to forget to do the same for our business,” said Melanie Duquesnel, President & CEO of BBB Serving Eastern Michigan. “If you set goals for yourself and your business and make a valiant effort to reach those goals, you are more likely to have a successful year.”

If you want to revamp your business style in 2018, here are some New Year resolutions to consider.

Improve Your Digital Presence

Your website should be updated every few months. Even if it’s just scrolling news or a calendar, make sure your website is up to date. Editing your website regularly also helps your business maintain or improve its ranking in search engine results. If your website isn’t mobile friendly, it’s time to add that to your resolution list. Is your company active on social media? If not, research what platforms your customers are on and explore creating a profile for your company. Being on the same social media platforms as your customers will help you with customer relations. Have you thought about creating a business blog but haven’t? The New Year is the perfect time to do this for your business.

Know Your Company’s Data

In this ever changing world, it is important to always be mindful of needed changes in your business. If you check your company data often, you will be able to identify any issues that may arise and make changes as they are necessary instead of having to do them all at once. If you invest in data analytics, you can view daily, weekly, and monthly reports on those metrics that affect your business most. Once you have set your goals, create a system that helps track your team’s progress. You may have one large goal you are trying to reach. Break your large goals down into groups, and disperse them among your team. This will help you achieve your larger goals at a faster rate.

Have Better Customer Relations

According to Forbes, understanding your customers is one of the best ways to improve your business’ service. If you have a business that works with individual clients, make sure your team knows the importance of personal touches. Remembering an individual’s preferences or information they’ve shared in the past, can be an effective way to set yourself apart. Always remember your client’s needs and objectives. Once you know what problem your client wants solved, you can more effectively serve them.

Focus on Growth

If you are the head of your company, you may often find yourself bogged down with paperwork or other tasks that don’t directly relate to the leading of your company. Consider delegating more of your tasks to those you can trust with the work. As the CEO, the best thing you can do for your business is to figure out how you can maximize the return on the time you invest in your company. According to Forbes, you should create an internal system that allows your team members to take on additional responsibilities as they grow in the company. When an employee’s experience and knowledge grows, their ability to help the business grows as well.

Become a Better Communicator

Determine the best way to communicate with not only your clients but with  your employees as well. Communication issues or misunderstandings with employees lead to a lack of morale which could hurt your business. Treat them as you treat your clients. Being an effective communicator is key to a successful business.
