DENVER, COLORADO—BBB Serving Denver/Boulder named Denver Rescue Mission Charity of the Month for October, 2017.
Since 1892, Denver Rescue Mission has served the Denver area by meeting the needs of those experiencing poverty and homelessness through emergency services, rehabilitation, transitional programs, and community outreach.
Today, Denver rescue mission operates eight facilities, including six in Denver and two in Northern Colorado. The organization’s oldest and most recognizable location is its shelter on Lawrence Street in Denver, which can accommodate as many as 300 overnight guests and provides medical care as well as optional church services for those in need. In 2015, Denver Rescue Mission completed a community center next door that offers meals, bathrooms, shower facilities, laundry machines, and a safe place to congregate throughout the day.
Denver Rescue mission also offers programs that help individuals and families transition out of homelessness, as well as rehabilitation programs for those suffering from addiction, abuse, or other destructive habits.
As organized by the BBB Cares Committee, the staff at BBB of Denver/Boulder participated in a food drive throughout the month of October. At the end of the month, five BBB volunteers traveled to Denver Rescue Mission to deliver the donated food (along with other items such as water bottles and tote bags) and learn more about the organization.
Consumers can contribute to Denver Rescue Mission’s work in a number of ways. The organization relies in part on volunteers to serve meals and work in long-term relational capacities with guests and program participants. In addition, they offer internship opportunities with a variety of focuses.
