DENVER, COLORADO—October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and in that spirit, Better Business Bureau has been hard at work studying how the issue of cybersecurity impacts small businesses. Today, BBB announced the results of a new report tiled The State of Small Business Cybersecurity in North America.
The report surveyed over 1,000 businesses in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, in order to analyze cybersecurity risk and effectiveness.
In part, the report emphasizes a cost-benefit analysis that small businesses can utilize to find cybersecurity solutions that make sense given their size. This is especially pertinent given that roughly half of small businesses say they could only remain profitable for one month if they were to lose essential data.
BBB accredited businesses fared slightly better than other businesses in most measures, including awareness of specific threats and adoption of security measures.
