BBB issues Warning on BCP Techs, LLC Following Cybersecurity Awareness Month Investigation

November 07, 2017

DENVER, COLORADO—BBB serving Denver/Boulder is issuing a warning on the company BCP Techs, LLC following a pattern of consumer complaints filed against the business.

Primarily, complainants allege that BCP Techs solicits customers, through online pop-ups, to purchase cybersecurity software and services that may not be needed. Complainants further allege that the company’s product does not work as advertised and that the company had the opportunity to access consumers’ personal data while allegedly servicing their computers.

BBB has received seven consumer complaints regarding BCP Techs since June 2016. The company has not responded to any of these complaints and currently has an “F” rating.

Complainants allege losses of up to $5,500. Multiple complainants also report giving BCP Techs sensitive data such as banking and credit card information, as well as unmonitored access to their computers.

Regarding the seven complaints against his company, BCP Techs’ owner Michael Vincent Lombardi asserted in a September 19 email to BBB that the complainants had mistaken his company for a different “BCP Techs.”

“The company you are referencing is not us,” Lombardi wrote in the email. “There is a BCP Techs marketing firm out will surely notice we are very different companies with different addresses.”

However, BBB’s investigation into BCP Techs found no evidence to substantiate Mr. Lombardi’s claim that the seven complainants mistook his company for a different BCP Techs.

BCP Techs, LLC is registered with the Colorado Secretary of State to Michael Vincent Lombardi of Parker, Colorado. The company’s street address is a residential property that matches Mr. Lombardi’s voter registration.

This investigation coincided with Better Business Bureau’s involvement in National Cybersecurity Awareness Month throughout October. Earlier in the month, BBB released the results of an extensive study titled The State of Small Business Cybersecurity in North America.

BBB also offers tips to consumers on protecting personal data online.

BBB urges consumers to view or submit complaints and reviews of BCP Techs on the company’s BBB Business Profile. In addition, consumers may report scams to BBB’s Scam Tracker website.
