April 26, 2017
DAYTON, OHIO, April 26, 2017 - Better Business Bureau serving Dayton and the Miami Valley is pleased to announce the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce will be the recipient of your BBB’s seventh annual Community Honor Award. This highly-regarded organization will receive the distinguished honor at your BBB’s Eclipse Integrity Awards on Tuesday, May 9 at David H. Ponitz Sinclair Center, 444 W. Third St., Bldg. 12, Dayton.

The Community Honor Award was established in 2011 to honor a community-based government, nonprofit or education organization with a proven commitment to improving all aspects of life in the Miami Valley. It spotlights the honoree’s efforts to realize not only its own mission, but its role in making the Miami Valley a thriving community, taking care of its citizens – individuals and organizations. The honoree enhances the Miami Valley marketplace by offering its own tangible and intangible resources, making a positive impact on the evolution of the Miami Valley and the betterment of its people and industries. It demonstrates a passion for and progress towards improving the quality of life. This honor is reserved for an organization, which has shown stamina, steadfast determination and truly innovative ways of giving back to the community.

Since its founding in 1907 by John H. Patterson, the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce is a perfect reflection of the award’s definition. Its mission is to strengthen, promote and advocate for its member businesses and the region’s economy. Throughout its history, it’s been a champion for the region as is evident in its involvement in building five new dams after the 1913 flood, its work in forming Wright State University and Sinclair Community College, completion of I-675, convincing Congress that Dayton would be ideal for the government’s aeronautical research and development center or the formation of the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Park. The Chamber models excellence for others to follow as it succeeds in being a US Chamber of Commerce with Five Star Accreditation year after year. It helps develop our community’s leaders through its Leadership Dayton and Generation Dayton programs. It also supports a wide variety of organizations philanthropically, such as the Dayton Metro Library, Culture Works, United Way of Greater Dayton and Miami Valley Military Affairs Association. It gives area businesses a central, unified voice.

John North, president and CEO of the BBB serving Dayton and the Miami Valley, shares, “The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce makes our region a better place to live, work and play. Its core values - Diversity, Advocacy, Collaboration and Courage - have driven it to bridge the gaps between our businesses, nonprofits and government entities.
