Horrible experience. My daughter's school gave a flyer from Baypoint (which is an Altapoint branch) that advertised free mental assessment for any child or teen needing psychological evaluation. This was a scam. The person I spoke with on the phone made an appointment for my daughter by outsourcing us to Bayview (another branch of Altapointe) which they did not tell us they were doing, in fact they assured us that our insurance company would not be involved because this was indeed free. I wondered why they wanted to know what kind of insurance we had, but they said over the phone that that was just a protocol type question and that they were not going to use our insurance. However, that was untrue and when we got to Bayview they did try to charge our insurance and asked us for our co-fee. When questioned about this and shown the flyer that clearly says this was supposed to be free, they said the reason was because she didn't qualify because she wasn't needing inpatient care (although there is nothing on the flyer indicating that this is limited to inpatient care only, in fact it says that the evaluation will determine the type of care needed). They never did the psychological evaluation for free as advertised and then by outsourcing us without even letting us know what was going on they were trying to get us to use their services through our insurance company which we never would have knowingly done. They told me that by talking to the person on the phone that that was the evaluation and that conversation determined that my daughter wasn't eligible because she didn't need inpatient care. However, the flyer indicated that the evaluation would be done for my daughter by a qualified doctor or psychiatrist. It never said that by me speaking with a receptionist or whoever that was on the phone, that that was the "evaluation". They also never told me over the phone that my daughter didn't qualify or that they were going to have to outsource her nor did they give me the option of if we wanted to be outsourced. The flyers they handed out are misleading and calling this anything more than a scam would be giving it too much credit. My guess is they are taking advantage of people at their most vulnerable state of mental health crisis and hoping that most people once sent on the wild goose chase to their outsourced company who would charge their insurance company, would just go ahead and do it and pay because of their desperate situation. This is a sickening abuse and it shows me that this company is not only greedy, only out to make money, but is also crooked.
