CBBB Board Announces Beverly Baskin as Interim President and CEO

 – The Board of Directors of the Council of Better Business Bureaus (CBBB) has appointed Beverly Baskin, the organization’s senior vice president and chief mission officer, to serve as interim president and CEO. The announcement came during the 47th International BBB Assembly in Atlanta, Georgia, following the resignation of Mary E. Power, CAE, Fellow ASAE. CBBB is the umbrella organization for the local, independent BBBs in the United States, Canada and Mexico, as well as home to its national and international programs on dispute resolution, advertising review, and industry self-regulation.

“Mary brought a start-up mentality to the iconic BBB brand and put into place many initiatives to expand BBB’s relevance,” said board chair W. David Hubbard. “The board and membership join me in congratulating Mary on her outstanding contributions to our organization. We wish her the very best as she takes on this new chapter in her very impressive professional career.”

In commenting on her decision, Power said, "It's a big, complex, exciting and rewarding job, but required constant travel and attention – and four years is a long time. So I'm ready to do something different and begin my next career adventure."

Baskin has served in several leadership roles with BBB over the past 30 years. She was recruited by business leaders in Columbia, South Carolina, to launch a new BBB there. She served there for 9 years before joining the Peace Corps, a lifelong dream. In 1999, she was hired as president and CEO of BBB Serving Eastern Carolina, based in Raleigh, North Carolina.

In 2011, Baskin was recruited to join the CBBB headquarters team in the newly-created chief mission officer position, which provides service to the more than 100 local, independent BBBs that serve every community in the United States, most of Canada, and a growing number of locations in Mexico. Her 11-person team provides governance, planning, professional development, and budgeting guidance to local BBBs, as well as managing the organization’s audit and compliance of BBB operational policies.

“I know of no one who is better suited to be our interim CEO than Beverly,” noted Hubbard. “Her integrity, her passion for the mission, and her graciousness are known to everyone who has had the pleasure of working with her. On behalf of the CBBB board, we thank Beverly for agreeing, once again, to take on a new leadership role with BBB.”
