Consumers are paying closer attention to protecting and managing their privacy, but three out of four say privacy statements and policies on websites and apps do not make it easy to understand how their personal information is being used. Better Business Bureau believes businesses have a responsibility to protect customers’ privacy; it’s one of the eight BBB Standards for Trust. That’s why BBB is joining with the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) to promote Data Privacy Day on January 28.
This year’s theme is "Respecting Privacy, Safeguarding Data and Enabling Trust." BBB joins with NCSA in urging consumers to “own” their online presence and take steps to protect their personal information. We also encourage businesses to be transparent about what information they collect and why; to only collect information necessary to do business; and to make sure they have safeguards in place to protect customer data from cyber criminals.
