On April 27, 2022, Discount Power entered into a settlement agreement with the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) that settles a case originally decided on March, 9, 2022 to which Discount Power filed an appeal.

 The March 2022 decision found that Discount Power had violated several Connecticut (CT) state statutes by not properly training and monitoring its agents, implying marketing calls were from utility companies, not clearly explaining the purpose of solicitations by using undefined terminology, failing to accurately explain rates, failing to state and misrepresentation of standard service rates, implying that consumers must choose a supplier, employing unfair and deceptive marketing practices, and conducting improper third-party verifications. These findings led to four penalties against Discount Power including a fine of two million (2,000,000) dollars, a suspension of the business’ CT electric supplier license for three (3) years, payment of restitution to consumers that enrolled with Discount Power during 2018 and 2019, and the business being subject to audit and monitoring requirements in the event of license reinstatement. Discount Power then appealed this decision and it’s findings.

 As part of the April 27, 2022 agreement, Discount Power has agreed to withdraw their appeal, permanently withdraw from the CT electric supplier market, all current CT Discount Power consumers be transitioned to standard services and alert said consumers to the change, and pay a total of one million (1,000,000) dollars to two local utility companies who will then distribute that money to affected consumers. This settlement amends the original March decision.
