Price gouging should have stopped now that the pandemic is over. A solicitation was sent to my cell phone about saving money since the plumber would be in my area. I bought a new bathroom faucet and needed the flapper in my toilet changed out. The faucet was changed out in less than an hour with the plumber refusing to use the shut off valves that were replaced by his company 2 years earlier. $1679.00 is excessive. I expected a longer, more indepth job for that amount. Plumber attempted to state my whole toilet needed to be changed out and he could sell me a new toilet. I refused. He put the old toilet back, changed out the flapper and the chain with the old toilet still working fine. The price did not change as he was only there for a short time actually doing work and I refused the new toilet as the old one wasn't broken. A good portion of the time, he was on his ipad. $800 per hour seems excessive to me as I had already purchased the faucet. Hopefully, in the future price gouging will end. I should have gone with a smaller company as I usually change the faucet and flapper out myself. I like quality service but not at $800/hr. I did get an estimate but I was shocked at how little time was needed to change a faucet, shut off valves, the drain pipe just slipped right out. I thought it was going to take a lot longer.

Took a shot in the dark hiring Paul the plumber. See their adds and see 5 star reviews and thought why not. Terrible experience with this company was not professional when It came to customer satisfaction. Very expensive if not more then other local businesses. Lucky for us we didnt have to use them or pay any expense because of a error with one of their technicians.

Hired them to replace a water heater, the technician was great but the customer service was horrendous. I had to call multiple time about a problem to not get any call backs besides when I started to get frustrated, took them over a month to fix the issue. When asked for an itemized receipt they refused stating that they don’t do that. They definitely overcharged us and then the refund was minuscule because they didn’t finish the work. I would not recommend them to anyone, but if you do go through them ask for Mike E. As a plumber, like I said he was the only professional thing from this company! 2 stars are for him alone

We respectfully disagree with your account of what happened here.  When Mike E replaced the hot water heater he clearly wrote on your invoice, "Could not get water heater out of the basement.  It’s an old house and old stair case. The hvac would have to be removed to get the heater out. If customer wants to have it removed we can send hvac tech to come give an estimate."  You called us and we had him call you again and explain this to you and you did not book another appointment.  When you called again we set up the hvac appointment and gave you a quote to do the work but you declined.  We agreed to refund you a disposal fee for the hot water heater.

Hired company to fix water leaking from beneath shower. First plumber who came looked at shower for a minute without running water before determining the leak was being caused by a hole near the valve that was created by a plumber of theirs from a couple years prior (Never leaked, however). Wasn't satisfied with professionalism of first plumber, asked for another to be sent out. Lead Plumber claimed shower was cracked and couldn't be fixed, quoted $7,650 to replace the shower. Estimate did not include cost of parts, or estimated labor (Or even dollar amount per hour of labor). Hired another company who replaced a gasket and have had no leaks since. Paul The Plumber repeatedly claim the fixture is cracked, yet the issue has been resolved by another plumber. Company tries to pressure you into replacing things you cannot afford but dangles 10 year financing plans as an option and claims other customers have gone with more affordable options and ended up having to have them do it anyway. I've previously used this company for repairs in my elderly mothers home, this company is clearly pushing replacement over repairs even when unnecessary.

My wife and I are landlords to a 2 family home in Manchester NH. We had used Paul the Plumber a few times over the last year. (Prior to this last visit we had great impressions of the company) Recently, our tenant had informed us they heard knocking when turning on the cold water faucet in the bathroom. Since we had to have the plumber come out to assess the issues with the faucet we decided to have them quote an array of upgrades we were looking to have done. (New heating system, insulation of piping and etc.) However, while my wife was home the plumber indicated that the faucet needed to be replaced. He indicated to my wife that he had a faucet on hand that he could install to eliminate the knocking sound. The faucet itself was $39.00 at Home Depot. (I researched) Since I wasn’t there I wasn’t aware of the cost until after the installation had taken place. I tried calling Paul the Plumber 3 times and was told the manager would call me back. She never did. On the 4th call (5 days later) I was finally transferred to the manager who said she couldn’t divulge any information regarding the $798 dollar charge for 1 hour labor and $39 dollar faucet. She was adamant that she was the only one I could speak with about the pricing but didn’t have access to explain the pricing to me. I was just trying to understand the pricing because we were apprehensive about moving forward with the quotes if a faucet cost close to $800. I was also told that this is standard pricing with all faucet replacements but based on reviews I have seen in the last few months, the higher prices vary depending on the person. We will not being moving forward with Paul the Plumber with any future needs. Their lack of transparency, dishonesty, lack of communication, and high prices are absurd.

      08/03/2023

We are very transparent in our pricing.  The technician comes in and gives the customer the price before he does any work, that way there you can agree to move forward or you can send him away. We are priced the way we are for numerous reasons, but ultimately it comes down to what it costs us to deliver a high level of service for customers. It’s true that smaller, or one man operations can be cheaper, but we do business differently, and have found that thousands of homeowners in NH see tremendous value in the way we operate. Good questions to ask when you’re considering going with a cheaper company; Will they be available for me when I need them? Can I trust that they’ll show up on time, and complete the work when they say they will? Has the person who comes to my home been background checked? Are they competent and knowledgeable on how to fix my problem? Do they offer the same guarantees and warranty on their work, and actually stand by them? Do they properly compensate their employees with fair wages, benefits, and health insurance? At Paul The Plumber we try to create a customer experience that goes beyond just the job itself. In order to do that, and answer “yes” to all the questions above,  there are added costs, but we truly believe that it is the right way to do business.

Beware of vast overcharges for service. While at my house fixing a shut off valve the repair person noticed a small leak in my expansion tank of my furnace. He told me that this was a very large repair requiring a "a lot of time to correct" and would require him to take apart the entire furnace. The cost was $2,900. Having had positive experience before with Paul the Plumber we agreed to the repair. While a "lot of time" took 1.5 hours and required about $300 in parts, he did not take apart the furnace - just shut off the water and put on the parts outside the furnace. That comes to $1700 per hour !!! Total dishonest portrayal of the scope of the project. Do not trust this company. Get a second opinion. They are dishonest.

Request was for rebuild of a guest bath mixing valve due to inconsistant water temp. Mike and Tyler inspected the 20 year old mixer and left to get the required kit. After rebuild the water still was not as hot as the adjacent sink tap. Mike noted that we had remodel work in our kitchen and asked if any other was being done. A new shower in the master bath was roughed in and he found that the partial valve there was open and allowed cross mixing of hot and cold lines. He closed the balancing screws and solved the issue. Prices were in line with other larger plumbing groups. All seem to have adopted a price structure that allows quote to never be exceeded. Mike and Tyler were courteous, and quickly found and corrected the source of our issue.

Very outrageously over priced for the work they do. Recently had work done from them thinking they are fair with their pricing to find out after the fact they charged me double what anybody does. I do not recommend them to anybody.
