The following is a list of referral agencies that may be able to assist homeowners facing foreclosure.

The Home Ownership Center offers counseling for all stages of home ownership.  When families are at risk for foreclosure, they can help restructure the loan, refinance, negotiate with the lender, offer rescue funds to make the loan current, set up a budget to help make future payments, etc.  The earlier homeowners seek assistance, the more options will be available.  Assistance is available to homeowners in Hamilton County.

HOME provides free foreclosure prevention assistance in Hamilton County under a grant from United Way.  An experienced counselor can help the homeowner develop a workout plan and negotiate for a loan modification with the lender.

Lifespan, Inc. Credit Counseling services provides one on one counseling to families in Butler, Hamilton and Warren Counties in Ohio.  Certified credit and housing counselors work with families to develop a spending plan and to help find alternatives to bankruptcy and foreclosure.

Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc., (NHS) is a private nonprofit lending business that provides homebuyer education, homebuyer lending capital, homebuyer and homeowner insurance education and neighborhood outreach. They also provide loans for home purchase, home rehabilitation and down payment/closing cost assistance.

NKCAC offers Homeless Prevention Assistance to provide temporary financial aid to prevent families and/or individuals from eviction or foreclosure and becoming homeless.  Homeless Prevention Assistance includes the Emergency Shelter Grant if a client comes into the office with a "curable" foreclosure notice from their mortgage lender.  In general, that means being between 30 and 90 days behind on the mortgage. Clients must have contacted the loss mitigation or delinquent loan department of their mortgage company, and be eligible for a "workout" agreement.  In addition, the homeowner must occupy the home as their primary residence.
