I bought a Percheron from Westside Stables in April of 2021 advertised as a 15-year-old gelding, 17.1 hands - the Facebook advertisement stated that he is ‘not a worn out Amish horse.’ I paid $4,500. I also paid their on-site veterinarian aprox $100 for what we called a ‘simple’ pre-purchase exam - the vet thought his age to be 17 (I can live with that) and 18 hands high with no visable lameness. Once he arrived I realized the size was WAY off at 16.3 and 2 very expereinced veterinarians I had check him over, aged him at over 20. After the 10-day quarantine period (which they, the business, highly recommended) we started using him and realized he was lame; corns (a form of absess) arthritis and ringbone along with a tendon issue on the front. I have spent over $1,500 in vet bills, meds, specail shoes and wraps and he is still not $100%. I contacted the owner Eric B and he first agreed to give me another horse with a $2,000 credit to make it right….when it came down to it he wanted to charge me his ‘cost’ on another horse which was SKY HIGH. I tried to even negotiate a cheaper horse just to recoop a little money and now he’s been unresponsive and obviously unwilling to work with me on this.
