I mailed a letter to UniFund asking them why they put this account of my credit report AFTER I contacted them and started making payments. I mailed a letter and sent copies of my check stubs to let them know how much I could pay a month. I started making those payments. Two or more months later, they put the account on my credit reports. What reputable company would do that to a person who is making payments? I can see if I ignored them and failed to pay. I understand that they are in the business of destroying peoples' credit, but come on, I was paying this account back. First, I asked them to validate and show how the balance got to be so high. They sent itemized statements showing the balance increase each month. I then sent copies of check stubs and began making payments. At a time like this when people are already having hard times, why would they put that on my credit report when I was making the monthly payment that I told them I could make?????? I stopped making payments on this account. I feel now that I have no interest in repaying anything. The damage has been done, so if they don't care to do what's ethical, neither do I. I wanted to do the right thing and make payment arrangements and make my monthly payments so that this account would NOT appear on my credit report. Guess what? UniFund put it on my credit report anyway, despite me doing the right thing. They responded to my letter below saying that the account was validated. I did not ask for validation again. I asked why would you put this on my credit reports if I am making a good faith effort every month to repay what is owed!!!!! They didn't even try to offer a settlement for this account. UniFund is a big joke and a disgrace to all the collection agencies who treat people in an ethical way! Below this line is a copy of the letter that I sent. ................................. In reference to account #***************** I stopped making payments on this account because you placed it on my credit report. I contacted you to advise you of what my monthly finances were and how much I could pay every month. I then began making my monthly payment. WHY WOULD YOU PUT THIS ON MY CREDIT REPORT AFTER I CONTACTED YOU ABOUT MY FINANCES AND STARTED TO MAKE MY MONTHLY PAYMENTS?????? Creditors usually don’t put an account on someone’s credit report if they are trying to repay the debt. They usually place accounts on credit reports when someone doesn’t respond or doesn’t attempt to make any payments. Since this item has been placed on my credit report, there is no desire to make any future payments. My credit is ruined again, so I really don’t care at this point. I think what UniFund did was wrong. If the item is removed from my credit report, I will resume making payments. If not, the account will remain on my credit report with no future payments. The choice is yours. I did my part in reaching out and attempting to repay, even if it was a small amount. Now do your part and remove this account from all credit reports so that I can resume making payments.
