I was looking for an apartment in Chicago. I found a room provided by Landstar Realty. The response was a little late but I figured it was a busy day for the person. I tour the rooms, I get an application and a bunch of document requirements. I submit all of my documentation (landlord verification included!) and pay the credit check report. It comes back and I'm approved. Suddenly things get really strange as they suddenly ask for proof of paying rent. Now, first of all, I make enough to pay for this room many times over. My credit has improved markedly in the recent months. My current landlord is capable of relinquishing any information they could want. Landstar Realty demanded I provide them with proof of rent or I would not get the apartment (despite being approved).Now, think about this really slowly with me. I am asked for documentation upfront. This is all the information they need, you would assume. If there were one more thing to resolve, ask that immediately and do not take my money before that. Is that so hard to ask? I am really dissatisfied with this very short sighted business faux pas and a denial of an apartment I am clearly qualified to rent. You could argue I should have all documentation available were I truly qualified. But not every persons situation is the same. Not everyone has the necessary pedantic information to solve a classic bait and switch. At this point is isn't about qualification but CLARIFICATION. Communication is KEY in making a deal. And Landstar Realty does not care about communication.
