On 7/21/23 I had my vehicle towed to AAMCO (Charlotte, **, South ***** St. location) to replace a transmission valve body. A week or so prior, my vehicle was showing an error code of P1757 (front brake solenoid valve), and the vehicle would intermittently get stuck in first gear. The part was warrantied from the manufacturer and shipped to AAMCO to perform the work. The sales rep from AAMCO informed me that they had received the part and they would need to perform a diagnostic on the vehicle to confirm the issue. When the sales rep called me, he informed me that my transmission fluid was significantly low, and that was causing the error code. According to the sales rep, they refilled the transmission fluid, cleared the error code, test drove it, and the code didn't come back. This was done without my authorization or knowledge, as this was the first conversation with AAMCO regarding low transmission fluid. None of this sat right with me since my fluid levels were normal prior to having my car towed to AAMCO, there were no fluid leaks, and the symptoms I was experiencing were not indicative of low transmission fluid. Additionally, just because the error code is cleared does not mean that it would not return. AAMCO did not perform any other diagnostic work related to the transmission valve body. So the issue wasn't truly diagnosed. I voiced these concerns to the sales rep multiple times. Nonetheless, the sales rep advised that I drive the car for a couple days to see if the code came back and if so, they would investigate further. This "further investigation" is what should have been done initially. Instead, AAMCO charged me $400 to replace transmission fluid and a "diagnostic" that truly didn't diagnose the issue. Since the work was done without my authorization or knowledge, I certainly did not expect a $400 bill when I picked up my vehicle, as AAMCO never discussed any costs with me. The same error code (P1757) returned the very next day (7/22/23) as expected.
