Evaluation Conclusions


St. Mary's Center does not meet the following Standard for Charity Accountability.

Standard 11: Financial Statements - Make available to all, on request, complete annual financial statements prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. When total annual gross income exceeds $500,000, these statements should be audited in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards. For charities whose annual gross income is less than $500,000, a review by a certified public accountant is sufficient to meet this standard. For charities whose annual gross income is less than $250,000, an internally produced, complete financial statement is sufficient to meet this standard.

Agency financial statements are reviewed by a CPA but are not audited.

Agency comment relative to issue with standard 11: “Currently, Saint Mary’s Center does not have an annual audit performed due to our limited financial resources. However, we do have an annual review completed by our tax service, Goforth & Herron, PSC. After we move into our new center, and have additional participant enrollment, we do hope that we will be able to have the audit performed annually.”

St. Mary's Center is a caring, non-denominational, nonprofit agency that serves teens and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in the Louisville and Southern Indiana communities. We offer services through our adult day training, teen after-school program, and recreational athletics activities since 1993. A better quality of life, new opportunities to learn to be more productive members of society and restored hope for each participant is the mission of St. Mary's Center. Additionally, supporting the parents and guardians with respite is a goal of our Center. We directly serve over 150 participants each year and an additional 400 individuals are supported through our special athletic competition and other activities throughout the year. Our Executive Director has hosted a statewide annual invitational basketball tournament for the last 40 years for anyone with special needs. Our sports programs serve as a training opportunity for many to prepare for the Special Olympics competitions. Our teams include bowling, basketball, track and field, softball, golf, swimming, cheerleading and our newest sport of bocce.
