Money driven not driven by helping pets. Wanted to run unnecessary and numerous tests. Tests are not helpful if it doesn't change the treatment plan or the outcome. vets I dealt with seemed much more concerned that I wouldn't agree to thousands of dollars worth of tests that *** or *** not answer anything than actually treating my dog. My dog had a high fever no medicine was even offered. I asked numerous times why they couldn't give her something to bring down the temp. Even if there was a concern regarding her liver and kidney I would have gladly signed a waiver. It can't be good for any animal to be left with such a high temp (*****) untreated. Treating pain and fever is part of quality of life issues even if diagnostically there isn't a cure. IV fluids were needed and because I wouldn't pay $3000 upfront basically nothing was done other than a fan and Ice packs. We were lead to believe at 530 pm the plan was antibiotics and Subcutaneous fluids not IV. Why not IV, because I wouldn't pay $500 more. We were also told that if we did not agree to the $3000 treatment plan and decided after 3 hours of observation that we needed to leave her then there would be additional fees because that treatment plan would be considered an after hours charge. 3 hours later we went to basically say goodbye to our family pet only to discover nothing had been done. Seemed as though they wanted money first to even implement the plan that I had already signed and agreed to pay when leaving at 5:30 pm. So my husband paid $1500, signed a DNR and signed paperwork to treat her with IV fluids and an antibiotic pill ( not IV or injection - that costs more) We told them we would be taking her to our own vet the next morning. Vets are often required to treat symptoms, make best guess diagnosis from knowledge and past experiences as they don't have a patient that can give details and there aren't enough "tests" to even give a clear answer for definite diagnosis.
