I applied for an unit in the complex the last week of November. I paid about $465 in fees ($300 deposit to hold the unit during the application review, $100 admin fee, and $55 application fee plus a $10 something surcharge for the online debit card payment.They were quick to deduct the money from my accountwithin 15 minutes. A week later, I heard back from them with their decision. I didn't get the unit. In the same email, the person said to contact them with any questions I may have.So I asked for a timeline on the refund of the deposit, etc. No response. I emailed a few more times over the next 2 weeks. Radio silence. Finally, I called them and got a dismissive response along the lines of "We'll call you when the check's ready." Evidently, they only issue refunds in form of paper checks. I asked for a timeline and was told that they didn't know as they don't handle the finances. I emailed the assistant leasing manager saying if they didn't have the check ready by the date given by me, I would be filing a complaint with BBB and seeking legal action. Once again, no response.When the day arrived, I went to the leasing office and asked for the check. The professional asked someone in the back then said it wasn't ready. I informed them that I'd emailed their manager a few days ago and told them what would happen if it wasn't ready. They shrugged and said, "Like I said, it's not ready. We will call you when it's ready." I told them that there was no reason for them to hold onto my money for so long after deciding not to accept me as a tenant.They said that for non-tenants, it may take up to 30 days for a refund to be ready.I don't think they were very transparent and honest in their dealings with me so far. They certainly weren't sympathetic nor willing to work with me to expedite the process since the delay was a major inconvenience in the middle of a move. And really, they accept online payments, but drag their feet on refundsand paper checks?!
