We closed on our home in November-23 and have had nothing but issues since. There is zero attention to detail with the construction of this house. During the design phase we asked for specific items and were told that they were not an option. After walking through other homes that had design choices that we would have made, we questioned the designer and were told that they never said no to our questions (even though we asked multiple times about one of the items). Additionally, when we questioned why other homes had items that we didn't know about, we were told (in writing) that they didn't show us everything that was available to chose from.From day 1 I smelled gas and called AW to check, to be told it was nothing. Over the course of a month we had contractors check at least 4 times for a gas leak only to be told there was nothing wrong. It was only after we called the energy company to check and provided evidence to AW that there WAS a gas leak did it get resolved - A MONTH LATER!Since we moved in, we have had workers here every week fixing something that was wrong. We have crooked walls, misaligned tiles, french doors installed too close to the corner so they don't open all the way, broken items and power outage when running the vaccum. We've had items "repaired" only to need the workers to come back out and redo or fix things they broke in the process. We are told that crooked walls are within "tolerance", that misaligned tiles are cosmetic, that power outage is normal, and it's our fault the doors don't open properly because we asked for the bumbers to be removed. Our driveway was damaged and has paint spilled on it and we were told that AW would only resurface the parts of the driveway that are damaged and to exepct that our driveway will be multicolored when they are done. Our cabinets are separating from the walls, but "this is normal" and they won't be addressed for one year.AW, you need to do better by the people who buy your homes.Review from John T

Premium prices for below average craftsmanship. I went 3 weeks with no dishwasher when i moved into the home because the plumber did not hood the unit up properly. When they sent the plumber to look at the unit, all he did was check the valve under the sink and blame the electrician. I had to call Whirlpool to send a technician out and he had the unit working in 15 minutes. I have only been in this house for 5 months and now I am going on day 6 with no hot water. They sent the plumber out to look and once again he blamed the electrician. The paint work in the house is poor, and the siding has already fallen under my patio twice. Do yourselves a favor and find a different builder.Review from Hailey K

We signed up to have our home built by Ashton woods. We were told it would be done in a specific month but it was ready in 3 months earlier than quoted. This was exciting news til we got to the home and noticed how much stuff was broken and unfinished. It did not resembled the quality of the model home. They did not even have a vent hood installed. We asked the to fix the defects prior to moving in because we know how fussy it can be to go to warranty. We were told it would all be fixed prior to our signing. This was told to us on Thursday we would be signing that Tuesday that Monday was a holiday. Seemed virtually impossible. We we there money to find nothing had been fixed we called our sales agent and then were told theyre not addressing it. The manager told us we not paying for a million dollar house so we shouldnt expect million dollar finishes. That it seemed we were just making excuses to not have to purchase the home. I told him he was gaslighting us. We peaked in and saw that nothing was fixed. Went to the office to run into another sales agent that told us they were just thing to finish us out and get us to sign before the fiscal year ends. Rather than taking the proper time to build they rushed and then it was evident. We sent photos and a letter to corporate but they never responded to us or my emails. I wanted to tell them how disrespectful the manager was and how he rushed hes contractor who appeared to be stressed. My husband got so overwhelmed about the way Ashton woods addressed the issues with the house it triggered his ptsd. He walked out the door midday and kept walking. He didnt come back for over a week or answer any family or friends. He didnt tell me he wasnt signing for the house because he was worried I wouldnt want to live there if the continued to deny repairs. These people dont treat you like humans. We put 17k upfront and they still talked to us like were a joke for not wanting broken tiles etc.Review from Waldemar A

On 9/18/23 I called my sales representative at ********************* to advise her that my husband had received a job offer outside of the country When I first met we told her that the job might be an option however at that time was not definite Now that it is another sales representative told us that we were outside the loan commitment cancellation First we signed the contract on 8/26/23 and today is 9/24/23 Secondly I called the sales representative on 8/18/23 Third the sales representative went on vacation and never informed me and that I had the time coming up I was not told that we had 30 days Its not the buyers fault if the loan is not longer able to proceed Now Im having a hard time to get the down payment back which was hard earned with much work and sacrifice Im being forced to buy a house that I wont live and afford Its very unfortunate that when a contract needs to be signed and the down payment is needed we get notifications however when a life event happens no response is received to make the more time go by Two contracts were given to me one with the closing date of end of Sept and another one with the closing date of Sept 2023 and Oct 2023 Its not like the townhouse is the only one to sell as there are plenty available including the two on each side of the townhouse I always had good faith to buy always doing all the paperwork needed, checking constantly the status and even looking for quotes of outside vendors to do the closets and other upgrades. I would not have done all of this if I was not serious, Im a hardworking professional and deserve the respect and courtesy. All I am asking is for the down payment to be returned its unfair for a multimillion dollar company to steal money from an average person. This complaint is to advise people so that they dont fall on the same mistake and to get together to support each other to make a strong collective complaint and not allow to be intimidated and let sales representatives make the decisions for us.Ashton Woods Homes Response

I, like so many, would NOT recommend Ashton Woods as a home builder unless you like living with repairmen in and out of your home within the first year. We had 2 major leaks in walls and 5 minor leaks. The minor leaks were 3 toilets, the washer/dryer valves, and the kitchen sink. The major leaks were within walls and unnoticed for months causing mold, loss of family time, and ruining vintage items inherited from my grandmother. We went without a functioning kitchen for 3 months which included the Thanksgiving holiday. Now, I will say that Ashton Woods did offer to put the molded cabinets back in until our new ones arrived. As a family with a ton of allergies, we chose to forgo that plan for our own health. Our home was unsafe for our children for 3 months. We had to empty out our entire primary closet so that the mold, leak, drywall, carpet, carpet padding, and baseboard could be repaired. I had 30+ work days interrupted by repairs and supervising of said repairs which resulted in falling behind on projects putting my job in jeopardy.The best part? After being super patient and kind throughout the whole process, they didn't care to repair pieces of our home to the original quality. The siding on our house was uniform and beautiful before the major kitchen leak. When I asked the Ashton Woods representative if we could please repair it to match the rest of the siding, he said it shouldn't be a problem. His boss thought otherwise. His boss thought doing just above the bare minimum on a home that had undergone months of repairs was unnecessary. Why try to maintain the equity of a home they already cashed in on?If you want to be a project manager overseeing repair work every other day for a newly constructed home, Ashton Woods is a great option for you. If you want to move into your new home and enjoy your life, Ashton Woods should not be considered. It shouldn't even make the long list of builder options.Ashton Woods Homes Response

Once ***************************** salesperson got our ******* money, she could care less about the quality of construction and the fact that the interest rates continued to rise. We tried to look for alternatives after they discontinued our design option selections, but *** was more interested in us cancelling the contract, increasing the price of the home by $30k and profiting two ways. Disgusting experience! For the price, the home construction is VERY Sketchy in this price range and a rush-rush job. Also, be careful at the Sunday Creek at Kinder Ranch. They are not honest at that neighborhood and tried forcing us to take a less than desirable lot. We continued to share that we wanted a quiet lot further to the back, but ****** insisted that we take one on a super busy corner.Ashton Woods Homes Response

Agree with comments others have made. DO NOT buy from Ashton Woods. The *********************** is the worst. Examples: They broke a couple windows while building the home, understandable, it's gonna happen. But, instead of replacing the WHOLE window frame that contains two panes of glass, they take the cheap route & just replace the exterior pane. Now you have no insulation/gas between the panes. Sloppy caulking all over the framework of the windows & this happened to three windows in our *********** they have moisture between them. Yes they have a 10 yr. warranty, but you have to pay the labor which for two large windows is $950. They shortcut everywhere possible! I could make a list a mile long to post here, but their lack of commitment to a quality home is from top to bottom. Master shower leaks & the ** blamed us for not putting tile on the outside of the show where the water has now penetrated the master closet wall & moulding. Seems this should be an engineers responsibility & the design center to actually have a clue & think of these possible issues. You have been warned by many here, I would steer clear of this builder.Ashton Woods Homes Response

Whatever you do do NOT buy an Ashton Woods home, from the sales department, to warranty it has been nothing but a fight to get things fixed, looked at, adjusted.. you name it. At a house at this price point we should NEVER had to deal with such a mess. Not to mention, the inability to follow through with requests throughout the entire process of building our home. So far my experience with AW has been good. All of the small details people are pointing out, we pointed out at the blue tape walk through and they were all fixed. My sales person *************************** was great, he answered most if not all of my questions and if he couldn't he would ask and get back with me. I have been in my home a month now, closed 2/27/23 moved in 3/10/23 and have only had 2 minor issues, one which was fixed like 2 days later. The other is pending, because I just reported it a couple days ago, but the construction manager (*****) literally came by the same day to see what the issue was. Everyone I have dealt with has communicated very well and been very helpful. I'm crossing my fingers and praying I don't run into any major issues. My experience with them as a first time home buyer has been stellar; even the lender they used was great and answered all of my questions.
