In March 2022 I left Texas from an abusive husband (*****************************) and took my 2 children with me. Fled to ** with my family. I hired Thummel law firm I was given ********************************* as my attorney. Her retainer was $5000. Started proceeding, attorney requested money several times adding up to $15,000- before trial date. Trial was held in ***** June 2023. I was awarded back child support, child support, part of ****** ****** of income tax. After trial attorney said about 6 weeks to write up the final draft and submit to *******'s his attorney. After trial she requested additional $3,500 then another $2,000 to finish paperwork, said she had to re-word it. Totalling $20,500.00 paid. Months went by and I had heard nothing from attorney, so I reached out to her twice. She would not answer me. My mother (borrowed money from ******** *** both filed complaints with the Texas state bar Assocation. Then we had a friend check case progress on Oct. 12th- she said no paperwork had been filed since the trial in June '23. Within a few days after we filed complaints with Texas State Bar ******* contacted me-said I was now her highest priority, and all the paperwork would be submitted to *******'s attorney right away and she should have an answer by Friday Oct. 27 from ******'s attorney. I still have heard nothing. She sent me another statement saying in Oct. they paid themselves from my money for something.? I would like to see itemized statement with explanation on how our money was spent- exactly what they did with it- the paperwork they filed. Also, I am confused as to why I would pay her to re-write paperwork, isn't it her job to have it written correctly to begin with? Please HELP me- I am a single mom with 2 small children who has been struggling to support myself and my children for almost 2 years now. Their father has not given me anything to help with the children- just the opposite-last year he took the full income tax, and he didn't even have the children. I want to start receiving my settlement. I seem to be at the mercy of an attorney who is promising things but never comes through with results- each time I reach out to her to see what is going on with my case she charges me more. PLEASE HELP!!!
