In May 2023 I bought a brand new Honda HRV. In July 2023 I ran over a nail and had to replace my rear DS tire. The tire shop didn’t have an exact match so they got one with a similar tread. I had 2000 miles on the car so was told replacing 1 tire was ok. I had no issues until November 2023. On 11/21 I took my car to OBrien for an oil change and tire rotation at 5800 miles. Rear tires measured 10/32 and front were 8/32. The replaced tire was moved up to the DS front. Right after this there was a thumping in the floorboard when driving, especially between 20-30mph, & when braking. On 12/12 I went back to OBrien at 6900 miles. They said the thumping was due to 2 different treads on the front tires. They measured the replaced tire at 10/32 & the other 3 at 8/32. They told me to replace 2 tires & do an alignment. On 12/15 I had the tire shop replace the tire AGAIN to match the other 3. The thumping persisted. On 12/27 I took my car to *** Honda at 7400 miles. They measured all four tires at 10/32. They said all 4 tires were feathering, needed replaced, & an alignment done because the rear toe was out of spec. On 12/29 I called OBrien. They said the 2/32” difference in tread measured on 12/12 was the cause of the rear toe issue (even though there was no tread difference measured by ***), so repair wouldn’t be covered under warranty. On 1/2/24 I called ******* about their warranty. They don’t cover feathering because it’s a mechanical issue and not a tire failure issue. I also called Honda corporate on 1/2 and they told me to just do what the dealership said and fix it. I am very frustrated with this ridiculous situation! This car has 8k miles on it and Honda is seriously saying I need 4 new tires?! It doesn’t make any sense that the tire measurements were inconsistent or that 2/32” would make the whole car misaligned and damage the other 3 tires. Honda and the tire company are just pointing fingers at each other refusing to pay up and fix my car under warranty.
